Christ's Last Temptation
The focus point of this film which makes it remarkably different from other films, is what happens when Jesus is crucified upon the cross. Jesus is confronted by who he thinks is an angel but is really Satan. This "angel" begins to show Jesus what he may have if he chooses not to die for the sins of mankind. He tempts Christ with images of a marriage with Mary Magdalene, consummating their marriage and Mary dying shortly afterwards.
Jesus with Satan in the disguise of a girl
Jesus comes to realize, as an old decrepid man, that he was tempted and that he should save the souls of many by simply dying for them. As Jesus is on his deathbed as an elderly man and Jerusalem is burning due to a Jewish Rebellion, Judas makes Christ realize his wrongs for having wanted to live.
Jesus begs for mercy from God
In the burning streets, Jesus tries to take back what he has been born to do. He flashes back to the cross and says "It is accomplished." His final words
Although this is a dream being presented to Jesus, the idea itself of Jesus being married, having kids and not dying for mankind's sins erases the existence of Christianity. To even suggest to a group of people that their religion could have been erased was extremely offensive to the people who boycotted this film.
