Jesus and Sex
Another aspect of this portrayal of Christ that is uncharacteristic of him is the presence of sexual innuendo and nudity in the film.
Is it possible that the 1988 pop culture version of Christ is alright with revealing some skin?
Jesus was naked on the cross. Jesus was naked while being beaten by Roman guards. There were nude women while John the Baptist was preaching and baptizing. While Mary Magdalene was working as a prostitute, she did not wear clothes. While this all was probably historically accurate, it seems people (those who see this as blasphemous) do not like seeing a historical rendering of what went on. This work of fiction had some realistic moments and they were harsh.
Jesus visited Mary Magdalene at her "work" and waited while she had sex with other men. He was tempted to lie with her, although he did not.
Another "sexual" point that was pointed out by nay-sayers was how Jesus was kissed by another man on the lips. That man being Judas, and that kiss being how he identified him to authorities. Hardly sexual, yet it did cause a stir.
Finally, the most importantly lambasted point of sexuality was the brief segment in which Satan offers Jesus a life to marry Mary Magdalene. There was a clip in which Jesus and Mary having sex was depicted. This was by far the most controversial point of the film. Jesus was no longer a virgin, how he was supposed to be. Although, this was purely hypothetical, a dream, more or less, not to mention, a work of fiction.
